For years, the plan was simple: rank on Google and customers will find you. That is still important, but it is no longer the whole picture. More and more people now ask AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity for recommendations, and if your business does not come up in those answers, you are missing people who are ready to buy.

The good news is that showing up in AI search is built on the same fundamentals as good marketing. Here is the approach we use with our clients.

Publish content that answers real questions

AI assistants look for clear, useful answers. Your website and social channels should be full of content that responds to the questions your customers actually ask: how to choose between options, what something costs, what to expect from the process. Write to help, not to sell. A page titled "How to choose the right widgets for your business" will do more for you than another page of promotional copy.

AI tools can help here too. Jasper is useful for brainstorming and drafting, and HeyGen can turn a script into a short video. Just make sure the final version sounds like you. Customers can tell when content was produced on autopilot, and so can the platforms.

Keep your business information consistent

Make sure your name, address, phone, hours and services are accurate and identical across Google, Bing, Apple and every directory you appear in. Add schema markup to your website so machines can understand exactly what you do and where. And claim and complete your Google Business Profile, since it feeds a lot of local search results, including AI-generated ones.

If you serve Spanish-speaking customers, publish key pages and answers in Spanish as well. People ask AI assistants questions in their own language, and you want to be the answer either way.

Use AI-driven advertising for local reach

Ad platforms have gotten much better at finding the right people. Meta Advantage+ and Google's AI Max use machine learning to decide who sees your ads and when. Give them good creative, a clear offer and accurate conversion tracking, and they can do a lot of the targeting work for you in your local market.

Keep learning and adjusting

This space changes quickly, and what works today may not work next year. Follow a few trusted sources, test new features when they make sense for your business, and be willing to adjust. The businesses that stay curious and keep experimenting are the ones that will hold on to their visibility.

None of this requires a big budget, just steady, consistent work. If you would like a second pair of eyes on where you stand today, we are always happy to talk.
