Most people who visit your website leave without buying anything. That is normal, and it is not a sign that something is broken. But it does mean that a lot of interested people are slipping away, and retargeting is one of the most practical ways to bring them back.

Retargeting used to take a lot of manual work: building custom audiences, writing ad copy, designing visuals and keeping it all up to date. AI has made that process much faster and more personal. Here are three strategies we recommend.

1. Use AI to help with ad copy and creative

You no longer need to spend hours on every headline. Tools like Jasper and ChatGPT can draft headlines, product descriptions and calls to action in seconds once you give them a few details about your product. Treat what they produce as a first draft: edit it so it sounds like your brand and is accurate.

On the visual side, Canva's AI features can produce clean graphics, product mockups and simple video ads quickly, which makes it easier to test several versions instead of betting on one.

2. Personalize your retargeting ads

Retargeting works when it is relevant. Someone who looked at running shoes should see running shoes, not a generic brand ad.

Meta's AI-powered targeting uses browsing behavior and other signals to decide which ads to show to whom, which helps your message reach people who are most likely to care. With email tools like Klaviyo, you can also send dynamic product recommendations based on what someone viewed or bought before. If part of your audience prefers Spanish, a separate set of ads and emails in Spanish is one of the simplest ways to make retargeting feel personal.

3. Automate the routine work

Running retargeting by hand means constantly checking campaigns, adjusting bids and swapping out tired creative. AI can take on much of that routine work so you can spend your time on strategy.

Tools like Adzooma and Smartly.io use machine learning to help with audience segmentation and bid adjustments. Automation still needs oversight, so check in regularly, review what is working and make sure the ads still reflect your brand.

Retargeting will not turn every visitor into a customer, but done well it brings back a meaningful share of people who were already interested. If you want help setting it up, you can schedule a free consultation with us.
